2002 Premier Female Sale

Wednesday 6th November 2002

A packed ringside witnessed bidding, for a female, to a record 8000gns and a near clear out of Belgian Blue females, at the inaugural Premier Female Sale, held in association with the Border Belgian Blue Club, at Borderway Mart on Wednesday 6th November 2002.

Escorte Du Fond De Bois

Judge, Jack Morrison, 'Chatham' Herd, Armoy, Northern Ireland, put up 'Escorte Du Fond De Bois' as Supreme Champion. Over four seasons, this truly exceptional cow, has won over 25 Championships. Auctioneer David Dickinson commented, ' This is one of the most exceptional beef cows, ever to be presented at Borderway Mart.' Serious bidding rose to 8000 gns with her leaving the ring unsold. But she has since been sold through the auctioneers to Heather and Steve Watson of Newton, Barrow in Furness to join their Woodbine herd at 8,500gns.

Jane Wyllie of Pessall Farm, the reluctant vendor, wishes the Watsons well with their purchase and hopes Escorte soon settles into her new home.

The Served Heifer Class winner 'Paulern Shepperdine,' bred by E R Hemmings & Co, sired by 'Inexes De La Croix De Mer' claiming a red ticket and being knocked down at 2000 gns to J F Hutchinson, West Linton, Peebleshire.

Senior Empty Heifer Class Champion, 'Tamhorn Sheena' from Jane & Danny Wyllie, sired by the well known, 'Philipper De Remichampagne,' found itself heading south with P D Crossmore, Nantwich in Cheshire, at 2100 gns.

Sam Hamilton, Express Tyres, Lockerbie, home of the 'Dundrod' Herd of Belgian Blues, was the main, and generously sponsor of the show prize money. The Supreme Champion was awarded with the 'Norbreck Havana Perpetual Challenge Cup', kindly donated by Richard & Philip Halhead of the 'Norbreck' Herd; other generous sponsors being MacMin, Stirling and T W Relph & Sons, Penrith.

The vendor of the top priced animal 'Springfield Tinga ET', Alan & Deirdre Wilkinson, proudly taking home the 'Insem Perpetual Challenge Cup', presented by company representative, Giles Sharp.

Other leading prices were headed by 'Tamhorn Tess ET' sired by 'Seduisant De Fooz' at 3000 gns, purchased by Mr G Forsyth, Bishopton Herd, Whithorn, Newton Stewart. Next at 2700 gns was a daughter of 'Alambic De Baillonville' 'Astbury Tamzin ET' from Jim Barber, Congleton, Cheshire, to P D Crossmore.

The last in the ring 'Paulern Preston,' a daughter of 'Visconti De St Fontaine,' left the ring at 2600 gns going to Mr S D Gill of Dacre, Harrogate.
