Reserve Champion was a May 2009 Norbreck Blackbeauty sired Heifer from Mr
N Jenkinson weighing 605 kgs @ £2.60 per kg
Champion suckled calf was a May 2010 British Blue x Limousin x steer from
Mr M Kirby which later sold for £1500
Overall victor was a British Blue heifer calf from A Sowray & Son, of Bowes Green Farm, Bishop Thornton, Harrogate, who have achieved marked success in the Skipton calf arena. [report]
Two quality British Blue Crossbred cattle sold at the Society Sale in March
this year achieved notable success with their new owners at Devon and Cornwall
Primestock Shows.
The March Champion, a Blue x Lim heifer bred by C&W Phillips was purchased
by Alan Cook of Ivybridge, Devon. The heifer was shown very successfully
throughout the summer taking no less than four red rosettes against strong
competition.
The Cook’s show season came to a poignant conclusion, taking the Christmas
Show Championship at their local market, Exeter, where they are regular exhibitors
and supporters. The hammer fell to another Chelford supporter, Ross Withers,
who took the heifer back to St Austell at 240p/kg (£1,526.40).
Cornish showman Richard Cobbledick purchased a heifer in March, consigned
by Jason & Sarah Wareham, the heifer has “done him proud” all
year. Again she was shown at several summer shows taking two Reserves, 4
Champions, 2 Champion beef, 2 Reserve Supremes and a mind-boggling 16 silver
trophies!!!
Their season concluded with Show Champion at Truro Christmas Primestock where
the heifer sold for a massive 520p/kg having tested the scales at 680kg to
gross a colossal £3,536, the buyer was Ralph & Mark Michell of
Higher Calenick Farm Butchery near Truro.
