2011 Annual Dinner
SALEABLE MEAT YIELD BOOST FOR BLUES “THE new grading system paying producers for ‘saleable meat yield’ of carcasses will further boost the British Blues popularity as a terminal sire,” commented Cormac McKervey, guest speaker at the NI Blue Cattle Club dinner dance. Looking forward to Allam’s Xmas Show and Sale the Ulster Bank senior agricultural manager said it would again demonstrate the great attributes of Blue bred cattle. “No other breed so impressively stamps its mark on this hugely enjoyed event as the British Blue. A fitting end for another year of progress for the NI Blue Club with good prices and good clearances enjoyed at shows and sales. Congratulations to all who strove so hard to bring the Blue to the forefront as a terminal sire for suckler and dairy herds alike.” In a further upbeat comment Cormac McKervey noted that the agri food industry was finally getting the recognition it has so long lacked. “Just where would the Northern Ireland economy be without the farm and food sector, the brightest spot on our business landscape? It is indeed heartening to hear that the Stormont executives ‘programme for regional government’ includes plans to drive forward this £3 billion industry. “However, it is above all progressive farmers, willing and able to invest in their family farms, who are always the real driving force behind agriculture’s success. Farmers, such as those in the NI Blue Club, who meet the challenge of breeding better stock to produce better quality cuts for consumers to enjoy.” A theme taken up by NI Blue Club chairman Ivan Gordon of Kilkeel, who thanked members for their support and acknowledge how quickly commercial herd owners have appreciated that brilliant Blue ability to upgrade carcasses and cheques! click on images to enlarge
