WONDERFUL TRADE FOR STYLISH “TAMHORN TREASURES” AT CHELFORD

Chelford Sale Ring
Sale Ring
A leading bid of 9500 gns was merely the icing on the cake at the production sale from the Tamhorn herd of Belgian Blues held at Chelford Agricultural Centre, under the auspices of the British Blue Cattle Society, for Jane and Danny Wyllie, on Saturday 8th November 2003.

The outstanding stockmanship of this couple, who have won a host of Shows and Awards in recent years, culminating in the recent award of the Society’s “Premier Breeder of the Year”, drew a huge crowd of breeders from all over the UK and Ireland to the Chelford Centre, for a sale widely regarded as the finest sale of Belgian Blue cattle ever seen in the UK.

“ Style” was how Chelford auctioneer Gwyn Williams summed up the herd’s main attraction in his pre-sale comments, and it was that style which attracted furious bidding for many of the superb cattle on offer.

Tamhorn Urika

The leading bid came from an undisclosed breeder for Tamhorn Urika, the January 2002 born daughter of Ministre, out of the superb imported cow, Jalapa Du Fond De Bois, who herself made 5700 gns earlier in the sale. She is due to calve in March, and went home to Thirsk, N Yorks, with Miss D F Whiteley.

Leading the Cows was the Show Cow Tamhorn Oriana, a daughter of Cristal de Somme out of Norbreck Kitty, who sold open and ready for flushing, made 5900 gns to Anita Padfield, Gt Yarmouth.

It was the outstanding selection of Maiden Heifers, however, who attracted all the attention. Tamhorn Up Town Girl, a 16 month old heifer by Baron Du Bois Bauloye, out of the 1997 Royal Show Champion, Tamhorn Milly, made 5100 gns to Aldridge, W Midlands breeders A E Neachall & Sons, whilst Devon breeder Ted Haste, determined to find something special to add to his Stoneleigh herd, dug deep and beat off strong competition from several others to pay 5000 gns for the outstanding 10 month old Tamhorn Verity, by Jardinier De La Bonnie Raie out of Glebedale Jane, one of the herds foundation cows. Another young daughter of Jane the 7.5 month old Veronica, by Affute Du Ry Ossogne, made 3800 gns to Messrs Neachell.

Leading the served heifers at 4700 gns was Tamhorn Sabrina, by Baron out of the great brood cow Noella Van De Wolvendreef. Due shortly to the Limousin, she went home with S H Hamphlett, to Ranton, Staffordshire, whilst an outstanding imported heifer, April 2002 born Immediate ET De Mehonge made 4600 gns to John Mawer, Grantham.

The sale was mainly about the Females, but a couple of young Bulls were offered. One in particular the 7 month old Tamhorn Victorious was catalogued with his mother, Odette. Due to extremely high pre sale interest, however, he was offered separately, and this superb blue and white son of Baron really set the ring alight, before selling for 4000 gns to Messrs Neachell & Son, who also gave 3300 gns to secure his mother.

Two Crossbred recipient heifers, carrying embryo’s of identical genetics to the 3800 gns Vampire, made 2100 gns each.

Averages:
5 Cows and Calves £3963.75
47 Served and Maiden Heifers £3297.00
3 Young Bulls £2275.00
2 Recipients with Embryos` £2205.00
